Matisse in His Studio, oil on canvas, 30 x 40 inches. One of my earlier paintings. The woman in the pink dress is inspired by a Pina Bausch dancer.
After finishing this painting, I dreamed that Matisse approved of it. I was so happy. He made a fabulous painting of his studio that is mostly red. He liked to sit close to his models when he drew.
